Marrakech – On Tuesday, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced on its website its decision to lay off approximately 900 employees within its PlayStation division, constituting 8% of its global workforce.

Following this, it became the latest technology company to announce headcount trims.

In a recent blog post, Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, explained the rationale for the staff decrease and emphasized the company’s dedication to meeting the expectations of developers and gamers while improving future gaming technology.

We need to deliver on expectations from developers and gamers and continue to propel future technology in gaming, so we took a step back to ensure we are set up to continue bringing the best gaming experiences to the community,” said Ryan

There will be layoffs affecting personnel across all regions.

The London studio of PlayStation will close entirely, and several other studios are anticipated to be impacted.

Sony announced employment layoffs across the Americas, Japan, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the Asia Pacific area, citing changes in the industry as a driving force behind the restructuring.

Since the inception of the original PlayStation in Japan in 1994, Sony Interactive Entertainment has been at the forefront of the global video game and entertainment industry.

Being the creative power behind the venerable PlayStation console series, SIE has continuously provided millions of passionate gamers across the world with unique gaming experiences, award-winning games, and cutting-edge services.
