Rabat – Hussein Ammouta, Moroccan head coach of the Jordanian national football team, indicated in a recent interview with a Moroccan channel that he is thinking of leaving his post as head coach of Jordan’s national football team for family reasons.
Ammouta said in the interview that he will leave the Jordanian squad when his contract expires in a few months, stressing that he urgently needs to be with his family in Morocco as he is going through a difficult moment.
“It is true that I declared after the final match [between Jordan and Qatar in the Asian Cup] that I had difficult family situations in Morocco,” Ammouta said, adding that he has “started negotiating his departure, which will happen in the three or four months to come, due to the need for me to be with my family.”
When asked whether he has received offers to coach teams other than Jordan, Ammouta said that his contract with the Jordanian national team is still ongoing and that he has not received any proposals since the conclusion of the AFC Asian Cup.
The comments come in the wake of the recent Asian Cup, held from January 12 to February 10, where Ammonia led the Jordanian team to the final for the first time in the country’s history.
During the tournament, Jordan defeated Iraq 3-2 in the last sixteen, Tajikistan 1-0 in the quarterfinal and South Korea 2-0 in the semifinal. However, Ammota’s team had to settle for second place after losing 3-1 to Qatar in the final.
