Rabat – The death toll from the Israeli Occupation Forces’ (IOF) targeting of several villages across southern Lebanon last night has tragically risen to 11 civilians, including six children.
Al Jazeera reported that a woman and her two children were among those killed in an Israeli attack on the village of As-Sawana. In addition, an IOF strike on a building in Nabatieh claimed the lives of four children, three women, and a man, according to the town’s hospital director and security sources.
In separate attacks, four Hezbollah fighters were also killed, as confirmed by the Lebanese armed group and political party.
Tensions between Hezbollah and IOF have been escalating, with both sides exchanging fire over the border since October 7.
Israel stated that the recent escalation of attacks was in response to Hezbollah rockets fired earlier on Wednesday, which resulted in the death of one Israeli soldier and injuries to eight others.
Israeli military spokesperson Ilana Stein said, “Israel is not interested in a war on two fronts. But if provoked, we will respond forcefully.”
The US State Department has launched an investigation into several Israeli airstrikes in Gaza that resulted in civilian casualties, including the potential use of white phosphorus in Lebanon.
White phosphorus is a highly toxic substance that can cause severe burns, and its use in densely populated civilian areas is considered illegal.
The IOF’s bloody war on Gaza, which is developing into a regional conflict, has seen significant casualties and damage.
Since October 8, when Hezbollah launched attacks on Israel in solidarity with Hamas, much of the 120km border dividing Lebanon from Israel, known as the Blue Line, has been targeted by Israeli airstrikes and artillery.
