Rabat – Nigeria’s Super Eagles have sealed their ticket to the AFCON final, defeating South Africa in the penalty shootout.
The win gave Nigeria the chance to be present in the final for the first time since 2013 when they won the cup.
Normal time ended in a 1-1 draw, with Nigeria opening the scoreline in the 67th minute through a penalty.
Teboho Mokoena scored an equalizer through a penalty, however, in the 90 minute of the match.
Both teams displayed determination throughout the tournament and reflected this exceptional skill tonight.
The Super Eagles emerged as one of the standout teams, impressing with their attacking prowess.
South Africa remained resilient and dispatched formidable defense and attack throughout the game.
The Bafana Bafana were sent packing in the penalty shootout, which was in favor of the Super Eagles.
In terms of statistics, South Africa had led the second half with 61% possession and passes, and pass accuracy.
But Nigeria scored four while South Africa missed two and scored two goals during the penalty shootout.
The Super Eagles’s opponent in the final will be determined tonight as host Cote d’Ivoire is also playing a much-anticipated semi-final against DR Congo.
