Rabat – Morocco has become Africa’s highest-earning national team across the last two FIFA World Cups after collecting a total of $58 million in prize money from the 2022 and 2026 tournaments.
The Atlas Lions earned $31.5 million for reaching the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, adding to the $26.5 million they received after their historic fourth-place finish at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Together, the two campaigns have brought Morocco a combined $58 million in FIFA prize money.
The achievement reflects Morocco’s consistency on the world stage. After becoming the first African and Arab nation to reach a World Cup semi-final in 2022, the Atlas Lions followed it up with another impressive run in 2026 by advancing to the last eight.
Among African teams at the 2026 World Cup, Egypt finished second in terms of prize money, earning $17.5 million after reaching the Round of 16.
Several other African representatives, Senegal, Algeria, DR Congo, Cape Verde, Ivory Coast, South Africa, and Ghana, each received $13.5 million for their participation in the tournament.
