Rabat – Mustapha Baitas, Morocco’s government Spokesperson, told the press today that a number of local committees will be established throughout the country with the purpose of tracking the security operations of stadiums during sports matches.

The press conference on the matter took place today at the Government Council. In addition to being in charge of relations with Parliament, Baitas serves as the official spokesperson for the government.

These committees are required to develop mechanisms that enable the implementation of the prohibition decisions issued by the competent court.

Baitas added that these committees should maintain data that includes identification and photo documentation of vandalizers, improve mechanisms for ticket system tracking, as well as establish security rehabilitation programs for sports stadiums.

This project falls within the framework of activating the provisions of a law relating to the completion of the criminal code.

This law outlines a joint security initiative between governmental authorities in charge of sports associations and clubs, as well as the local committee for combating violence in  stadiums and the judicial police. These bodies are tasked with implementing restrictions around stadium attendance for lawbreakers, as decided upon by the competent court.

The draft decree aims to ensure coordination between various actors towards combating violence in sports stadiums at the territorial level, and determines the different entities part of the local committees, which include both regional representatives as well as relevant government authorities.
