Rabat – Morocco and Manchester United midfielder, Sofiane Amrabat, shared his thoughts over Morocco’s AFCON exit in the round of 16, expressing his sadness at ending the dream of winning the title and making the Moroccan public happy.
The Moroccan international published a picture of himself on Instagram while leaving the pitch upon receiving the red card, and he accompanied it with a comment that said: “Since the first day of this adventure, we came here with one goal, which is to make you happy and proud,” in reference to the Moroccan public.
Amrabat added: “I would like to thank everyone, my teammates, the coaches, and all the staff who work around the clock for the good of the team. We are one big family, and we bear responsibility together no matter the circumstances.”
“From the first day we started this adventure, we came here with one goal – to make you happy and proud. We were desperate to bring the trophy home, however, fate had other plans,” he stated.
“And finally, I want to thank you for all your support as always. You are without a doubt the best fans in the world. Even in defeat you show the love you have for your country and those who represent you. I am lost for words and prouder than ever to be Moroccan!” Amrabat wrote.
“Inshallah we will come back from this stronger than ever,” he concluded.
Morocco’s national football team, the Atlas Lions, faced a crushing blow as they were eliminated from the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after a 2-0 defeat against South Africa in the Round of 16.
