Fez – After netting two goals for FC Sevilla in a match last Monday, Youssef En-Nesyri, has broken the record for the highest number of goals scored by a Moroccan player in La Liga. This record was held until recently by Moroccan football legend, the late Larbi Ben Barek.
The Moroccan international player led the Sevillians to a much-needed victory (2-1) against Rayo Vallecano at Estadio de Vallecas Stadium in Madrid, marking just their second away La Liga win this season.
The win moved Sevilla up to 15th place in La Liga, three points clear of the relegation zone.
Including his two scored against Rayo Vallecano, En-Nesyri has brought his goal tally for La Liga to an impressive 60 count. These include 5 goals in his career with Malaga, 13 goals when he played for Leganes, and 42 goals during his tenure with Sevilla. He has thus become the top Moroccan goal-scorer in the history of La Liga.
The Moroccan striker’s feat just surpasses that of the late record holder, Larbi Ben Barek, also known as the Black Pearl, who managed to score 58 goals in La Liga for Atletico de Madrid between 1948 and 1953.
