Rabat – Thales, a global leader in advanced technologies, has announced in a press release the appointment of Yan Levy as the General Manager of Thales in Morocco.
With over 33 years of experience within the Thales group, Levy brings a wealth of expertise to his new role. He will oversee the development of the Group’s activities in the North African country, particularly in the realm of cybersecurity, said the company in a press release.
Levy’s background within Thales includes roles in business development across the African continent, with a focus on public security and digital identity markets.
His career journey within the group began in air defense and tactical radio communication, eventually leading him to head major security projects.
Holding a master’s degree in Physics-Chemistry and an MBA in Computer Science, Levy’s commitment to Thales extends beyond his professional endeavors, as he has served as an ambassador for Thales Solidarity since 2015.
In the statement, Levy was quoted as expressing his enthusiasm for his new role, saying; “It is an honor to lead Thales’ activities in Morocco, in support of the Group’s localization strategy and in line with the Kingdom’s vision.”
He emphasized the company’s dedication to investing in research and supporting local talent, aiming to strengthen ties with Moroccan universities to prepare students for international careers and positioning Thales as a leading contributor in the Moroccan ecosystem.
Thales has been present in Morocco for over four decades, employing more than 135 people in the country, with its headquarters in Rabat.
In 2022, the company expanded its presence by inaugurating a cybersecurity operations center in Morocco, the sixth within its international network. The center aims to provide effective cybersecurity supervision for Moroccan and African administrations and companies.
In addition, Thales sealed an agreement with the Moroccan Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform in 2022, committing to recruit 150 individuals by 2027 to strengthen its cybersecurity activities in the country.
The Group stressed that its commitment to Morocco extends beyond cybersecurity, as evidenced by its ownership of a metal additive manufacturing center of excellence in Casablanca since 2016 and its provision of the first national biometric identity card in Morocco based on contactless smart card technology.
The statement noted that Thales’ influence in Morocco extends to its partnership with the national airline, Royal Air Maroc. The company supplies avionics and onboard electronics for aircraft, including the Boeing 737 and 787 fleets equipped with Thales in-flight entertainment systems.
Thales operates across three domains, including Defence & Security, Aeronautics & Space, and Digital Identity & Security.
