Rabat – The Head of the Moroccan Government Aziz Akhannouch continued his series of meetings under the new round of social dialogue in Rabat on Wednesday.
Akhanouch received a delegation from the General Union of Moroccan Workers (UGTM), led by the Secretary-General of the union Enaam Mayara, with the aim of addressing the “legitimate” concerns of workers, said the government in a press release.
This includes pension reform, improving working conditions, advancing employee rights, reducing taxes on the middle class, and increasing the minimum wage.
The new round of social dialogue “confirms the government’s commitment to joint and responsible action alongside its social and economic partners,” according to the statement.
The meeting was attended by key ministers, including those from Economy and Finance, Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Labor, and Skills, as well as delegates overseeing Budget and Parliamentary Relations.
During the meeting, Akhannouch emphasized the important role of both families and the labor force in government policies.
In this respect, he highlighted salary enhancements benefiting various worker demographics, alongside increases in the guaranteed minimum wage (SMIG) and agricultural sector wages (SMAG).
The statement stressed that the atmosphere of the debate was marked by a “shared sense of responsibility,” with Akhannouch reaffirming the government’s commitment to meeting the needs and aspirations of the workforce.
The ongoing dialogue commenced with a meeting between the government chief and the Moroccan Labor Union (UMT). It will proceed with meetings with the Democratic Confederation of Labor (CDT) and the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM).
The press release stressed that the social dialogue initiative reflects the government’s dedication to institutionalizing constructive engagement with social and economic partners, in line with the vision outlined by King Mohammed VI.
