Rabat – Morocco’s Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development has joined forces with the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) to boost green energy innovation in the country.

Signed in Sale on Wednesday, the agreement reflects a collaborative effort between the government and academia to drive forward the transition towards a more environmentally friendly and inclusive economy in Morocco.

Under the terms of the partnership, endorsed by Minister Leila Bengali and UM6P President Hicham El Habti, both entities pledge to combine their resources and expertise to implement initiatives outlined within the framework of the agreement.

Key components of the partnership include the promotion of entrepreneurship, innovation, and applied research tailored to meet the specific needs of Morocco while aligning with national energy transition and sustainable development policies

In addition, the agreement aims to enhance cooperation between higher education, research, green entrepreneurship, and public policies, with a focus on supporting the South-South Cooperation Program to strengthen international initiatives.

The signing ceremony also marked the establishment of a partnership between UM6P and the Central Purchasing and Development Agency of the Tafilalet and Figuig Mining Region (CADETAF).

The partnership aims to support research and innovation for the downstream development of mining value chains in the region, in line with Morocco’s industrial policy.

The agreement also seeks to create a national center of excellence for artisanal mining exploitation and the incubation of mining startups, with the goal of addressing environmental and sustainable development challenges.

Speaking at the event, Minister Benali emphasized the importance of developing innovative solutions for environmental protection, highlighting the partnership’s alignment with the ministry’s mission to positively impact the lives of Moroccans.

For his part, UM6P President El Habti stressed the partnership’s potential to drive cleantech initiatives and empower youth to develop startups focused on addressing energy transition challenges.

The partnership agreement also aims to implement solutions developed within UM6P’s research laboratories at the regional level managed by CADETAF, ultimately benefiting artisans in the mining sector.
