Rabat – Several provinces in Morocco are set to see stormy showers and powerful gusts of wind with local dust storms expected to hit on Sunday.

According to a weather alert from the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM), localized thunderstorms with heavy rainfall, ranging between 25 and 35 millimeters, are forecasted from midnight until 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.

The list of provinces affected includes Midelt, Errachidia, Figuig, Tinghir, and Boulmane.

In addition, strong gusts of wind accompanied by local dust storms, reaching speeds of 75 to 90 kilometers per hour, are expected from Saturday at 12:30 p.m until Sunday at 7:00 p.m. in several provinces.

The provinces are Fahs-Anjra, Tanger, Figuig, Boulemane, Midelt, Ifrane, Sefrou, Khenifra, Beni Mellal, Errachidia, Zagora, Ouarzazate, Azilal, and Al Haouz.

Similar weather conditions with gusts of wind at the same speed are anticipated from Sunday at 3:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m in the provinces of Oujda-Angad, Guercif, Taourirt, Jerada, El Hajeb, and Taza.

Earlier this week, Morocco’s Motorway Company issued a statement warning drivers in several provinces of the potential impact the weather conditions could have on road safety. The company recommended that drivers assess the weather conditions before traveling.
