Rabat – CIH Bank is partnering with Google to offer Google Pay to its clients in Morocco. The service would allow MasterCard cardholders to use the contactless payment method.
The new initiative would also allow MasterCard cardholders to make payments via Android smartphones and Wear OS devices. To have access to the payment method, users will have to integrate their Mastercards into Google Wallet.
In a statement, the two parties said that CIH Bank and Google prioritize security by implementing tokenization, a process where card numbers are converted into unique tokens for each transaction. The measure decreases the likelihood of fraud occurring during transactions.
In case of loss or theft, they also have a “Find My Device” function that offers a quick response to block the lost device.
Commenting on the news, Jenny Cheng, Vice President and General Manager of Google Wallet, said that Google Pay is gaining international traction. The service is now available in over 70 countries, including Morocco, where users will benefit from enhanced security for their smartphone transactions.
On her part, CIH Bank’s Deputy General Manager in charge of Marketing and Communication, Amal Mouhoub, said in the statement that the partnership with Google reflects her company’s commitment to remaining “at the forefront of the digital transformation of the Moroccan banking sector.”
CIH Bank is Morocco’s eighth-largest banking group by market capitalization. It operates over 300 branches and nearly 700 ATMs across Morocco.
In July 2023, the banking group was the first group to introduce Apple Pay, a service that enables users to conduct transactions in person, within iOS applications, and on the Internet.
