Rabat – The death toll in the ongoing Israeli Occupation Forces war on Gaza continues to climb, with the latest figures released by the Health Ministry of Palestine painting a grim picture of the situation in the Gaza Strip.
A staggering 31,341 Gazans have perished in Israel’s brutal war on Palestinians since October 7, while 73,134 others have been injured, according to the ministry. The past 24 hours alone witnessed 69 fatalities and 110 injuries, highlighting the relentless violence plaguing the enclave.
There have been repeated calls for a ceasefire amid the alarming humanitarian collapse in Gaza, with Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer being one of the latest prominent voices to urge for decisive steps towards peace.
Schumer’s pointed remarks, delivered on Thursday, labeled Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as an “obstacle to peace” and emphasized the urgent need for elections in Israel.
The highest-ranking Jewish elected official in the United States, Schumer’s commentary marked a notable departure from his previous stance of cautious support for Israel, reflecting growing disillusionment with Netanyahu’s leadership.
As the violence persists, the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza is worsening at an alarming pace. Famine has now reached disastrous proportions, affecting more than 90% of the population, who are experiencing severe food insecurity.
Eyewitness accounts from northern Gaza paint a dire picture, with parents being forced to feed their children animal fodder and locally sourced plants out of sheer desperation, raising serious concerns about malnutrition and nutritional deficiencies.
UNRWA reports have highlighted the dire consequences of the deteriorating situation in the region, indicating that at least 10 children have tragically lost in recent days due to dehydration and malnutrition.
