Rabat – In a display of unwavering commitment to social welfare, King Mohammed VI, accompanied by representatives of the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, kicked off the “Ramadan 1445” operation in Rabat on Wednesday.
With an ambitious goal of helping one million households, representing nearly 5 million individuals, the “Ramadan 1445” operation is a testament to the enduring values of shared humanity and solidarity deeply rooted in Moroccan society.
Spearheaded by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, the initiative has mobilized over 2 billion dirhams (approximately $212.19 million USD) since its inception in 1998, symbolizing a commitment to collective well-being.
Boasting a budget of 347 million dirhams (approximately $36.83 million USD), this year’s operation focuses on distributing essential food items such as flour, milk, rice, oil, and sugar to those in need.
Particularly targeting vulnerable groups including widows, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities, the initiative extends its reach to areas affected by the 2023 earthquake, offering support to over 82,000 households in provinces like Al Haouz, Taroudant, and Chichaoua.
The number of beneficiary households increased from 34,100 in 1998 to one million in 2023, and the scale of the Ramadan 1445 operation has grown significantly over the years.
Covering 83 provinces and prefectures, the initiative’s expansion highlights its pivotal role in mitigating socio-economic disparities across rural areas.
Supported by financial backing from the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs, the execution of this operation involves meticulous coordination among thousands of personnel, including social workers and volunteers.

Rigorous oversight mechanisms, facilitated by local and provincial committees, ensure transparent distribution processes based on socio-economic criteria.
Governmental and non-governmental entities, such as the Royal Armed Forces and the Ministry of Agriculture, collaborate to uphold the operation’s success.
Meanwhile, quality control measures to ensure the integrity of distributed food products are overseen by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection and the National Food Safety Agency.
In a symbolic gesture, King Mohammed VI personally presented food baskets to representatives of ten beneficiary families, highlighting the monarch’s commitment to alleviating hardship within vulnerable communities.
