Rabat – In a coordinated effort between the judicial police of Kenitra and the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), an attempt to traffic over 2 tons and 145 kg of chira – a cannabis concentrate – was foiled. This resulted in the arrest of two individuals suspected to be involved in a drug trafficking network.
The operation unfolded on Tuesday evening when authorities intercepted a utility vehicle at a road checkpoint in Kenitra, just after it arrived from a northern city in the Kingdom.
According to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), the suspects, aged 25 and 38, were promptly apprehended. Subsequent searches of the vehicle uncovered alarming evidence, including a boat, two outboard motors, two GPS devices, a bladed weapon, and a staggering 65 bundles of chira weighing over 2 tons and 145 kg.
Both suspects, one of whom has a prior criminal record, have been placed in custody as part of an ongoing judicial investigation supervised by the competent prosecutor’s office.
The primary objective of the investigation is to unravel the extent of the criminal network and identify any additional accomplices involved in the illicit operation.
This successful security operation underscores the relentless efforts undertaken by the DGSN and DGST to combat the scourge of international drug trafficking and the circulation of psychotropic substances.
The statement issued by authorities emphasized the ongoing commitment to tackle such criminal activities head-on.
Notably, this interception e comes on the heels of another significant operation just a month prior, where authorities intercepted a cargo of more than 3.2 tons of chira at the Tanger Med port complex.
The collaborative efforts between National Security elements and customs services have proven instrumental in disrupting organized drug trafficking operations within the region.
The interception in Kenitra serves as a stark reminder of the persistent challenges posed by drug trafficking networks and the unwavering dedication required to combat these illicit activities.
As investigations continue, authorities remain vigilant in their pursuit of dismantling the criminal enterprises involved in drug trafficking.
