Rabat- The Al Aujairy Astronomical Center in Kuwait has announced March 11 as the projected first day of Ramadan 2024 in the Gulf country, according to their calculations.
The center also expects that fasting will conclude on the evening of Tuesday, April 9, with Eid Al-Fitr expected to fall on April 10.
As in several Gulf countries, Kuwait’s Ministry of Islamic Affairs has yet to confirm the official start date of the holy month, which depends on the sighting of the crescent moon.
The revelation of this date serves as a pivotal moment for the Muslim community. It marks the beginning of a sacred period of reflection, spiritual growth, and community solidarity.
With the arrival of Ramadan, Kuwaiti citizens and residents alike prepare to embark on a journey of devotion and self-discipline, engaging in fasting from dawn to dusk, increased acts of worship, and charitable endeavors.
Regarding customs and traditions during Ramadan, Kuwaiti Muslims participate in a variety of practices. One notable celebration is the “Quraish Day,” which is observed on the day before the start of Ramadan and is characterized by the enjoyment of delectable meals, particularly fish dishes.
The term “Al Quraish Day,” which has been passed down through generations in Kuwait, refers to the final day of the month of Sha’ban, symbolizing the evening meal before the beginning of Ramadan.
Originally a cherished folk tradition where women gathered in their homes, it has evolved into a social gathering where people from all walks of life come together.
Colleagues, friends, and family gather around a shared table, fostering camaraderie before the arrival of Ramadan.
This practice is rooted in the desire to avoid the uncertainty of waiting for the moon’s sighting, which could unexpectedly signal the start of fasting before the festivities, according to the Kuwaiti News Agency.
