Rabat – Despite promises of increased aid flow into Gaza, reports from the ground paint a grim picture of ongoing desperation and starvation among the Palestinian population.
The situation is notably dire in northern Gaza where residents barely receive enough assistance to sustain themselves with just one meal per day, Al Jazeera reported.
With hundreds of thousands facing starvation, aid groups emphasize that the current level of aid does not come close to meeting the immense needs of the Palestinian people.
Yesterday, only 178 trucks were permitted entry into Gaza through the Karem Abu Salem and Rafah crossings combined, a number far below what is necessary to address the looming famine, said Al Jazeera’s Tareq Abu Azzoum, reporting from Rafah, in southern Gaza.
The United Nations said it continues to face obstacles in delivering aid, citing significant delays and denials at checkpoints hindering relief efforts.
Andrea De Domenico, head of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the occupied Palestinian Territory, voiced the challenges encountered in scaling up aid delivery.
“We’re dealing with this dance where we do one step forward, two steps backward, or two steps forward, one step backward, which leaves us basically always at the same point,” said De Domenico,” De Domenico said.
“For every new opportunity that we’ve been given, we will find yet another challenge to deal with. So it’s really, really difficult for us to scale up to where we would like to be.”
The toll of the Israeli Occupation Forces’ (IOF) war on the Gaza Strip is evident in the staggering number of casualties. Gaza’s Health Ministry reported that the death toll has reached 33,899, with 56 Palestinians killed and 89 injured in the past 24 hours alone.
Meanwhile, the relentless Israeli attacks have left over 76,664 people wounded.
