Rabat – Morocco’s Education Ministry announced on Tuesday that the first installment of the MAD 750 ($73) monthly salary increase for teachers will be disbursed in the April salaries.
This decision comes after the completion of meticulous procedures and coordination between various governmental departments, the ministry explained, noting that it collaborated with the Ministry of Economy and Finance to facilitate the smooth implementation of this salary adjustment.
The salary increase is a direct result of the agreements reached between the government and the teachers’ unions on December 10 and 26 of last year.
These agreements covered a comprehensive increase in the salaries of all education personnel, amounting to a net monthly raise of MAD 1,500 ($149). The increase will be distributed in two phases, with the second installment scheduled for January 1, 2025.
The ministry’s announcement comes as teachers continue to express dissatisfaction with the education status quo.

Earlier this week, just before the ministry announced a date for the first installment of the monthly salary increase, teachers’ unions called for a nationwide strike on April 22.
In calling for a nationwide protest, the frustrated unions vented their outrage over what they see as arbitrary suspensions and perceived injustices within the education sector.
In their statement, released on April 15, the coalition of protesting teachers announced yet another series of protests they said would take place over the next two weeks.
Notably, the coalition — which consists of various teacher unions and associations — declared its intention to mobilize against what they considered unfair treatment by the Ministry of Education.
“The educational body has suffered great injustice for decades, with the abuse extending to the point of undermining the dignity of its men and women,” the statement read.
Titled “Call of the Suspended,” the statement outlined a range of protest actions aimed at addressing grievances within the education sector.
The coalition spoke of widespread mistreatment and disregard for the dignity of teachers, both active and retired, citing arbitrary suspensions and punitive measures as key concerns.
But with the ministry signaling its willingness to fulfill its promise of a monthly wage increase in two installments, it remains to be seen whether the coalition will go ahead with its planned series of protests.
