Rabat – The Moroccan national futsal team is playing its third group stage match today against Zambia, as part of the ongoing 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The game will take place at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat at 8 p.m. and will be broadcast on the SNRT group’s third channel, Arryadia.
The Atlas Lions won both the first group stage match 5-2 against Angola on April 11, and the second match 8-3 against Ghana.
Morocco is placed on top of Group A standings with 6 points followed by Angola and Zambia with 3 points. Ghana sits at the bottom with 0 points.
Zambia, on the other hand, has a win over Ghana 5-2 and a loss to Angola 5-8. The team will look to qualify to the semi-finals, which will pit the first team in Group A with the second team in Group B on April 19.
On April 13, the Atlas Lions reacted to their resounding 8-3 victory over Ghana, thanking the fans who turned out to support them.
“We have not yet qualified for the semi-finals because we still have a third match to come. We thank the fans who always support us, and hope they come in droves for the next game,” Moroccan futsal player Soufiane Bourit told the press on Saturday.
For his part, Soufian Charraoui, a new player at the national team who quickly adapted to the squad’s rhythm, said that “every match teaches us something. Today, we learned that if we’re not prepared 100%, the game becomes difficult.”
During the press conference following the Morocco-Ghana game, Morocco’s coach Hicham Dguig also pointed out how difficult the game was because of the defensive block the opponent formed.
“Ghana played all their cards, which created some difficulties for us,” Dguig said, highlighting that his team also made mistakes. However, Morocco soon returned to its usual style of play in the second half.
