Africa’s technology landscape is teeming with untapped potential. With a robust telecommunications and banking infrastructure, Morocco can position itself as a hub for innovation and digital transformation for the entire continent. By leveraging technology, Moroccan startups can address key challenges across Africa and drive positive change.

The momentum behind Morocco’s digitization efforts is genuine, as evidenced by the launch of the country’s new digital strategy, government policies to attract investment, and the successful hosting of the GITEX Africa event. The level of engagement and enthusiasm demonstrates the country’s commitment to advancing its technology sector and creating a welcoming environment for tech investment.

Talent is one of the most critical factors for a thriving local startup environment. Morocco is fortunate to have an abundance of talented individuals with great potential. With adequate support and resources, these individuals can play a significant role in shaping the future of technology in Africa. Investing in talent retention and addressing the skills gap will not only benefit startups, but also contribute to the country’s overall economic growth.

Access to finance and business opportunities is another key component for the growth and success of start-ups. Morocco has made significant progress and is taking further steps to attract local and international investment. Ensuring that technology entrepreneurs have access to the capital they need is critical to turning innovative ideas into market-ready solutions. Collaboration between incumbents and startups can also create a win-win situation, where incumbents support the ecosystem with funding and expertise, while startups bring fresh ideas and agile approaches.

Morocco can become Africa’s Silicon valley

As a growing scale-up with a presence in 23 global markets, Glovo actively seeks to foster and collaborate with local startup ecosystems in each country where we operate. In Morocco, we are privileged to work with innovative and promising local startups such as VPS, Konta, Lacaisse.ma, Cathedis, Digishare, VelyVelo and many others who have provided valuable insights and support in our daily operations.

We have also partnered with organizations such as 212 Founders, Stargate, The Moroccan Retail Tech Builder, and Technopark to provide mentorship sessions and help develop the next generation of tech entrepreneurs in Morocco. We believe that by working together, we can cultivate a thriving startup culture, inspire and empower Morocco’s future leaders, and create a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship.

Now is the time for Moroccan startups to take a leap of faith and seize the opportunities that lie ahead. By leveraging Morocco’s strong infrastructure, talented workforce, and access to funding, these startups can drive innovation and address systemic challenges across Africa. With its strategic location bridging Europe and Africa, a burgeoning ecosystem of tech hubs, and government policies that support innovation, Morocco is uniquely positioned to become the Silicon Valley of Africa.
