Join on Telegram Rabat – Moroccan security services in Tangier opened a judicial investigation into an trafficking attempt of over 27 kilograms of cocaine.
Police opened the investigation on Sunday to determine circumstances and details of the attempted drug trafficking .
A security source told Moroccan news agency MAP that the cocaine was found aboard a maritime transport container coming from a port in Brazil. The shipment was headed to Greece.
Preliminary investigations indicated that customs and law enforcements at the Tangier Mediterranean port received a notification from a technical team inspecting a container coming from Brazil, after suspecting its contents.
Following a thorough inspection, security services found 25 bags containing a suspicious white substance connected to a satellite positioning device.
The seized shipment weighed approximately 27 kilograms and contained 400 grams of cocaine.
The national central bureau is now activating an international cooperation to identify the source of the seized shipment as well as to identify those involved in the smuggling attempt for legal pursuit.
A similar case took place just a few days ago in Al Hoceima, northern Morocco, when police seized five tons and 345 kilograms of cannabis in two security operations.
Moroccan police seized the first shipment in a rocky area on the beach while the second shipment was seized in two fishing boats.
Police launched an investigation to uncover all possible extensions and arrest all suspects involved in the trafficking attempt.
Last year, Morocco seized 81 tons and 175 kilograms of cannabis as well as nearly two tons of cocaine.
