Beni Mellal – The first trucks carrying Spanish sheep have arrived in Tangier, where they will be sold as sacrificial animals for Eid al-Adha (Feast of the Sacrifice), as reported by digital media outlets in the neighboring country.
According to these sources, a truck driven by a Spaniard transported around 480 Spanish sheep from a location in the south of Spain through the Tangier Med port to an agricultural farm on the outskirts of the city.
The National Office of Food Safety (ONSSA) is currently processing the paperwork to receive more imported sheep from Spain and many other countries.
The owner of the agricultural farm confirmed that this batch of sheep is the first of many that will be brought from Spain in the coming days, potentially exceeding 2,000 head of livestock.
He explained that the sales process will begin on Sunday, with prices ranging from 1,800 to 3,000 dirhams (approximately 139 to 231 euros), making them affordable for everyone.
These prices are lower than those of their Moroccan counterparts, which can reach 3,000 to 8,000 dirhams (231 to 740 euros) due to the high prices experienced by all types of Moroccan sheep in the markets a few days before Eid al-Adha.
The arrival of Spanish sheep in Morocco has garnered significant attention, and this choice in the market offers consumers an alternative to the high prices of local sheep during this festive period.
According to the Spanish reports, the competitive pricing and the potential for a large influx of imported sheep in the coming days may have an impact on the Moroccan sheep market in providing more affordable options for those looking to purchase sacrificial animals for Eid al-Adha.
