Spanish airline Binter Canarias resumed its flights connecting Tangier with Gran Canaria on Wednesday.
The resumption of the direct air route is part of a partnership with Morocco’s National Office of Tourism (ONMT).
The inaugural flight landed at the Tangier Ibn Battuta airport, carrying the first passengers of this route.
Binter will operate the flight until October, with one weekly flight.
The airline extended the operational period compared to last year, with the aim of enhancing connectivity between the two regions.
Commenting on the resumption of the flights, Binter’s international communication officer, Borja Bethencourt, said that the airline is offering 35.8% more seats compared to last year, totalling 1,890 across all routes.
“This progress and the extension of the flight operation period throughout the year highlight the company’s commitment to Morocco,” he said.
The Binter executive further stressed the flight’s potential to stimulate tourism between the Canary island and Morocco.
ONMT has been launching several initiatives to boost national tourism.
Morocco’s airport authorities announced that Moroccan airports recorded a commercial traffic volume of 12.3 million passengers during the first five months this year.
This marks a 19% increase compared to the same period last year, according to the National Airports Office (ONDA).
