Rabat – Tarik Moufaddal took the helm on Saturday as the new Chief Executive Office of the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN).
Moufaddal’s appointment came as part of a ministerial council King Mohammed VI chaired on Saturday in Casablanca.
Moufaddal holds a Masters in Science from the Ecole des Mines in Paris as well as an engineering diploma from the Ecole Mohammadia d’Ingenieurs.
Moufaddal held several other options before his appointment. The newly MASEN CEO served as the Director of Mobility Solutions for France at Total Energies as well as General manager of Total Energies Tanzania from 2019 and 2022.
Between 2013 and 2015, Moufaddal served as a strategy project manager at Total Energies France and alsosupply manager at Total Energies Africa between 2011-2013.
He also served as Strategy and Business Development Management at Air Total International between 2007-20114.
MASEN is in charge of managing renewable energy in Morocco, specifically initiating development programs aimed at boosting the country’s energy production.
Renewable energy is one of the key sectors in Morocco’s economy.
Morocco’s objective is to source 52% of its electricity needs from renewable energies by 2030.
Last year, a report from the Global Energy Monitor said that Morocco’s goal is the most “credible” target in the MENA region.
Last year, Morocco’s Minister of Energy Transition Leila Benali said Morocco invested $56 billion to supply its domestic economy with cost effective and clean energy.
She also announced that several projects are under construction with a combined capacity of roughly 4.6 gigawatts.
