Rabat – Morocco’s Minister of Health and Social Protection, Khalid Ait Taleb, signed an agreement today with several unions representing the health sector with the aim of addressing their demands and improving the overall working conditions for health professionals in Morocco.
The move comes after health professionals engaged in nationwide strikes and protests in recent weeks, expressing their discontent with what they described as the government’s failure to honor previously agreed-upon commitments. The healthcare workers have continuously demanded better working conditions, increased compensation, and respect for their roles within the health system.
The agreement involves several major unions, including the National Health Union under the Democratic Confederation of Labor, as well as that under the Democratic Federation of Labor, the Independent Nurses’ Union, and the National Health Federation under the General Union of Moroccan Workers.
The agreement equally also involves the , and the National Health Sector Union under the National Union of Moroccan Workers, as well as the Democratic Health Organization under the Democratic Labor Organization.
The government said that the agreement is part of its efforts to implement the royal directives aimed at expanding social protection and reforming the national health system. It includes measures to enhance the governance of the health system and to recognize the efforts of healthcare professionals.
Key components of the agreement include a monthly increase of MAD 500 (around 50.7 USD) for nursing staff and MAD 200 (over 20 USD) for administrative and technical staff, effective from July 1, 2025. The deal includes improvements in promotion conditions and the establishment of new job grades for health professionals.
The agreement also brings about a special compensation system for health risks and the improvement of working conditions for health professionals. In addition, it includes plans to develop regulations for better management and governance of the health sector.
