Rabat – Sevilla FC Women’s team announced the signing of Moroccan football player Fatima Tagnaout from the Association Sportive des Forces Armées Royales (ASFAR) Women’s team.
Tagnaout, who is now embarking on her first professional journey, signed a two-year contract with the Spanish club, extending until June 2026. Sevilla FC noted that the footballer became the first Moroccan female player to don the jersey of the team’s first women’s team.
The player announced her departure from ASFAR after 10 years in a social media post last week, emphasizing the positive experiences that shaped her career in Morocco. “It will be hard for me to leave the team I grew up with and achieved many beautiful things with,” she said.
The player added, “the team treated me like more than just a sister; they gave me everything I wished for and more,” expressing her gratitude to the team’s management, players, and fans. In addition, she expressed her excitement about the move to her new club.
The 25-year-old player began her footballing career with Chabab Sidi Maarouf before joining ASFAR in 2014. During her time with the Rabat-based club, she played a key role in the team’s achievement.
Tagnaout greatly contributed to ASFAR securing the national league title nine consecutive times, helping to win the Throne Cup seven consecutive times, and clinching the CAF Women’s Champions League title.
She is also a key member of the Moroccan national women’s team, for which she earned 48 caps.
Notably, the Atlas Lioness was instrumental in helping the team qualify for the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, as well as reaching the final of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in 2022.
