Rabat – Morocco and Bahrain are moving towards boosting bilateral relations, with the two countries’ parliaments engaging in high-level discussions.
Rachid Talbi Alami, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Morocco, welcomed on Tuesday his Bahraini counterpart, Ahmed bin Salman Al-Musallam. The Bahraini official is leading a high-level delegation on an official visit to Morocco, aiming to bolster bilateral cooperation.
According to a statement from the Moroccan House of Representatives, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation.
They highlighted the evolving historical ties between Morocco and Bahrain, guided by King Mohammed VI of Morocco and King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain.
During the discussions, Al-Musallam reiterated Bahrain’s steadfast support for Morocco’s sovereignty, particularly concerning the autonomy initiative in the Western Sahara.
High-level delegation from Bahrain
He underscored Bahrain’s solidarity against any threats to Moroccan national unity and sovereignty. He also recalled Bahrain’s decision to open a Consulate General in Laayoune, reflecting Bahrain’s recognition of Morocco’s territorial integrity and the strength of the relationship between the two nations.
In addition, Al-Musallam praised the robust parliamentary relations between Bahrain and Morocco, emphasizing the high levels of coordination and the supportive stance Morocco has consistently shown towards Bahrain.
He expressed a keen interest in expanding bilateral cooperation in economic and investment sectors, boosting trade exchanges, and enhancing food security, benefiting both nations and their peoples.
For his part, Talbi Alami commended Bahrain’s unwavering support for Morocco, particularly regarding the autonomy initiative in the Western Sahara.
He lauded the successful bilateral and multilateral parliamentary relations over the past decade, which have included reciprocal visits, exchanges of expertise, and coordinated efforts in various regional and international parliamentary forums.
He stressed the importance of maintaining effective and continuous communication between the legislative bodies of both countries.
Both parties expressed profound appreciation for King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s efforts in supporting joint Arab initiatives and achieving regional security and peace.
They acknowledged the significant accomplishments during Bahrain’s presidency of the 33rd Arab Summit, which produced crucial recommendations and resolutions.
The leaders also voiced their support for Bahrain’s initiative to host an international peace conference in the region and reaffirmed their backing of the cause and rights of the Palestinian people.
