Rabat – The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) announced a major drug operation in Tangier on Wednesday, noting that the operation resulted in the seizure of over 41,000 psychedelic pills and the arrest of four suspects.
The operation, executed in collaboration between the Judicial Police and the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), is part of ongoing efforts by the DGSN to combat drug trafficking, particularly involving psychotropic substances.
Individuals aged between 36 and 62, were apprehended as part of a crackdown on a suspected criminal network, the police statement noted.
According to the DGSN, the dismantling of this network followed an investigation triggered by the arrest of an individual last Saturday in Sale.
The suspect, who had arrived by train from Tangier, was found in possession of 9,983 various psychotropic pills.
Ongoing investigations led to the identification of four accomplices connected to this criminal activity. They were detained during simultaneous police raids across multiple neighborhoods in Tangier.

The raids resulted in the confiscation of significant quantities of psychotropic pills, including 3,000 ecstasy tablets and 38,120 pills of Rivotril and Trankimazine, along with sums of money believed to be linked to the criminal enterprise.
The suspects are currently undergoing judicial procedures under the supervision of the relevant prosecutors to shed light on the full extent of their illicit activities and their respective criminal histories.
In April, Morocco was re-elected to the International Narcotics Control Board (INCB) for a third term.
With 25 countries contending for just five seats designated for government-nominated candidates, Morocco’s successful bid reflected the kingdom’s reputation for security.
Representing the country was Jalal Toufiq, whose election spotlighted Morocco’s growing influence in global drug control efforts.
Established under the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs of 1961, the INCB is an independent, quasi-judicial body of experts tasked with overseeing the enforcement of United Nations drug control treaties.
