Rabat – The town of Al-Qali’a, located south of Agadir, descended into chaos on Saturday after violent confrontations involving dozens of individuals from sub-Saharan Africa.
According to the Royal Gendarmerie, under the supervision of the competent prosecutor, the unrest was sparked by an assault on a sub-Saharan man.
The victim was attacked and struck on the head during an attempted robbery by two individuals. This incident served as the catalyst for a series of escalations.
In the hours following the assault, approximately 150 individuals of sub-Saharan origin took to the streets, disrupting the urban area.
Converging media reported that rioters threw stones at residents, damaged homes, and attacked vehicles. Law enforcement officers attempting to restore order were also targeted with projectiles, intensifying the chaos.
Authorities have since arrested two suspects linked to the initial assault and subsequent unrest. Investigations are ongoing to identify others involved, with officials promising appropriate legal measures against those responsible.
Videos circulating on social media have shed light on the intensity of the altercations in Al-Qali’a. The footage shows groups of individuals clashing in the streets, with some throwing stones and others engaging in heated verbal disputes.
In several clips, damaged vehicles and broken windows are visible, reflecting the scale of the chaos.
These recordings have sparked widespread reactions online, with many users condemning the violence while others called for a deeper understanding of the underlying issues.
In these videos, Moroccan residents were heard expressing concerns over the unrest, calling for increased security measures to prevent further escalations.
The town is gradually returning to normalcy as security forces maintain a heightened presence to ensure the safety of residents and prevent further disturbances.
