Rabat – Over 61,178 new businesses were established in Morocco during the first eight months of 2024, according to the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property (OMPIC).
In its business creation dashboard, OMPIC reported that these businesses are divided into 44,261 corporate entities and 16,917 sole proprietorships.
The report said that the commercial sector led the new business creations, accounting for 34.64% of the total.
It was followed by construction and public works (19.16%), miscellaneous services (18.77%), transport (7.97%), industry (7.32%), hotels and restaurants (5.66%), information technology and communications (2.78%), financial activities (2.09%), and agriculture and fishing (1.61%).
In terms of regions, Casablanca-Settat topped the list with 19,361 new businesses by the end of August, followed by Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima (8,741), Marrakech-Safi (7,124), and Rabat-Sale-Kénitra (7,035).
Other regions included Fes-Meknes (4,232), Souss-Massa (4,099), the Oriental region (3,578), Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra (2,376), Béni Mellal-Khenifra (1,801), Draa-Tafilalet (1,375), Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab (965), and Guelmim-Oued Noun (491).
Regarding legal structure, the report showed that single-member limited liability companies (SARL AU) dominated with 64.9% of the newly established businesses, followed by limited liability companies (SARL) at 34.5%.
