Rabat – Hassan II Foundation for Moroccans Living Abroad (MREs) has paid tribute to the solidarity campaign that the Moroccan diaspora launched to contribute to rescue efforts in Valencia following the devastating Dana storm.
The foundation released a statement today, extending condolences to Spanish and Moroccan families that lost relatives during the floods, noting that the Moroccan diaspora launched rescue and aid operations to join Spain’s efforts in tackling the devastating crisis.
“Since the beginning of the disaster, several Moroccan associations and cultural centers have published statements, mainly on social media, expressing their support, solidarity, and compassion for the victims and their condolences for the deceased,” the foundation said.
The statement added that this campaign also encouraged the Moroccan diaspora members to contribute to the relief efforts, adding that donation collection points have been also set up in different locations across Spain.
“Hairdressers, cooks, housewives, nurses, teachers, technicians, and other professionals got to work in the hardest-hit areas, working side by side in rescue, cleaning, and debris removal operations, encouraged by their faith and willingness to help in any way possible,” the statement added.
The foundation highlighted how Spaniards appreciated the Moroccan diaspora’s mobilization, renewing support and solidarity. They added that Moroccans have traveled to the affected areas from different regions, including Barcelona, Tarragona, Almeria, Malaga, and more.
