Rabat – Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan welcomed Chinese President Xi Jinping at Mohammed V International Airport Casablanca on Thursday evening, under instructions from King Mohammed VI.
The Chinese president’s visit signals a potential deepening of cooperation between the North African country and one of the world’s most powerful and influential nations.
President Xi was greeted with honors, including a review of the Royal Guard, and was introduced to key Moroccan officials, including Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch.
He was also introduced to Wali of the Casablanca-Settat region, Abdellatif Maâzouz, President of the Regional Council, and other dignitaries. Senior Chinese officials accompanying President Xi included Cai Qi, member of the Communist Party’s Central Committee, and Wang Yi, director of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs.
The Chinese President also participated in a traditional Moroccan welcome ceremony, featuring milk and dates, before heading to his residence in Casablanca.
The visit reflects the strong friendship and growing cooperation between Morocco and China, building on the partnership established during King Mohammed VI’s historic visit to China in 2016.
The two countries are working towards a shared vision to advance cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, and cultural exchange.
The East Asian country represents a key ally for Morocco, as it plays a central role in global politics, economics, and technology.
China, the leading exporter and importer, has the second-largest economy in the world and it contributes significantly to global trade and investment.
In addition, it leads in advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, telecommunications, and renewable energy.
And as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, China has significant influence on international peace and security.
