Rabat – During an official visit to Rabat on Monday, the President of Mauritania’s National Assembly, Mohamed Bemba Meguet, reaffirmed his country’s commitment to fostering closer ties with Morocco, noting the importance of enhancing cooperation in political, economic, and cultural spheres.
To Mohamed Ould Errachid, President of Morocco’s House of Councillors, Bemba Meguet, stated,/ “Mauritania, as a state and as a people, considers the development of its relationship with Morocco a top priority.”
He commended the ongoing collaboration between the legislative bodies of both countries and called for activating the Morocco-Mauritania Parliamentary Forum to meet the aspirations of their people and further strengthen bilateral ties.
For his part, Ould Errachid noted the deep historical ties between Morocco and Mauritania, rooted in shared cultural, religious, and linguistic traditions, as well as geographic proximity.
He lauded the progress achieved in recent years under the leadership of King Mohammed VI and Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, which has further solidified their partnership.

Ould Errachid acknowledged the advanced legal framework supporting Morocco-Mauritania cooperation, which was further reinforced by the 2022 High Joint Commission. He called for expanding joint investments and building multi-sectoral partnerships, particularly in renewable energy, maritime fisheries, infrastructure, and professional training.
Of the cultural ties between the two countries, Ould Errachid underlined the importance of strengthening bonds through human exchanges and greater parliamentary collaboration.
He urged the implementation of a memorandum of understanding between the legislative bodies to facilitate the exchange of expertise in legislation, governance, and public policy evaluation.
Ould Errachid also addressed the challenges facing the Sahel-Sahara region, such as terrorism, organized crime, and human trafficking, and stressed the need for increased regional coordination. He hailed the joint efforts of Morocco and Mauritania in advancing Africa’s development, security, and stability.
The top Mauritania MP concluded by pointing to his country’s crucial role in regional integration initiatives, noting its involvement in key projects like the Morocco-Nigeria gas pipeline, which plays a significant role in promoting economic cooperation and regional stability.
