Rabat–The Moroccan Front Against the Strike Bill and Pension Reforms (FMCLGR) has called for a large-scale protest march in Rabat on Sunday, December 15, to oppose what it describes as “regressive and destructive” legislation proposed by the government.

The march is set to begin at Bab El Had Square and conclude in front of the Parliament building, demonstrating the widespread discontent over the organic law on strikes and the government’s pension reform plans. The coalition, representing various labor and civil society groups, has voiced concerns that these measures threaten workers’ rights and hard-earned social protections.

In a statement, the coalition condemned the strike bill, which was adopted on December 4 by the Committee on Social Sectors in the House of Representatives. The Front claims the bill imposes significant restrictions on the right to strike, an essential tool for defending workers’ social gains and labor rights.

The coalition claims that the proposed legislation undermines a fundamental right secured through generations of struggle. It accused the government and employers of exploiting their parliamentary majority to impose reforms that jeopardize the interests of Morocco’s working class.

They also rejected the government’s proposed pension reforms, describing them as a return to the “cursed trio” of working longer, contributing more, and receiving lower pensions. These measures, the coalition argues, represent an attack on workers’ and retirees’ social achievements, violating their right to a dignified standard of living.

FMCLGR sees the reforms as a direct assault on fundamental social rights and has vowed to resist what it perceives as a rollback of essential protections for Moroccan workers and retirees.

The coalition further criticized a draft law targeting the National Fund for Social Welfare Organizations (CNOPS), claiming it aligns with antisocial policies pushed by the government and employers. According to the Front, this legislation threatens to dismantle the CNOPS and erode vital social protections.

With tensions mounting, FMCLGR’s planned protest aims to rally support for the protection of labor rights and social benefits in Morocco. The demonstration is expected to draw significant attention as workers, retirees, and civil society groups unite to push back against policies they believe undermine their fundamental rights.
