Rabat – Noussair Mazraoui’s refusal to join Manchester United’s plans to have its players wear pro-LGBTQ+ Adidas jackets ahead of their Premier League game on Sunday has led to the team’s unanimous decision to abandon the initiative, converging reports have indicated.

According to the reports, Mazraoui explained to the team that the move would clash with his principles.

As part of the league’s annual initiative to promote LGBTQ+agenda, the jackets are typically worn by players during warm-ups and while walking out for matches.

Mazraoui’s position reflects cultural and religious values, withhomosexuality being strictly forbidden in Islam.

In Islamic countries like Morocco, where same-sex relations are not acceptable, homosexuality comes against religious principles and natural norms.

The Quran explicitly condemns homsexual acts as sinful. And Islamic countries like Morocco, most people consider same-sex relations an unacceptable deviation from natural norms.

Despite diverging on a host of social issues, Islamic scholars and religious authorities have long maintained a tellingly consistent stance against homosexuality.

The perspective aligns with other Abrahamic faiths, which also condemn homosexuality based on their scriptures.

Manchester United players’ decision to abandon plans to wear the pro-LGBTQ jackets has predictably been making the rounds on social media and media reports in the past few hours.

In a report, the football website Goal said the LGBT fan group Rainbow Devils responded to reports of the team’s decision by saying that they respect Mezraoui’s right to have his own views.

However, the report added, the fan group expressed disappointment with the other players’ decision to support Mazraoui’s stance.

“We also worry what kind of negative effect this incident might have on any player at the club who may be struggling with their sexuality,” Goal quoted the group as saying.

In response, Manchester United asserted its commitment to diversity, arguing that it welcomes and respects the views of fans from all backgrounds.

“We are strongly committed to the principles of diversity and inclusion. We demonstrate these principles through a range of activities,” the Goal report quoted the club as indicating.
