Rabat – Omar Marmoush, the Egyptian striker who electrified the Bundesliga this season, has traded in his Frankfurt eagle wings for the sky blue of Manchester City.
The 25-year-old completed a record-breaking €75 million transfer, not only shattering Manchester City’s previous transfer record but also etching his name into history as the most expensive African player ever acquired.
He penned a four-and-a-half-year deal, keeping him at the Etihad Stadium until 2029.
“This is a day I will never forget,” Marmoush beamed. “To sign for Manchester City – one of the best teams in the world – is an amazing feeling. I am delighted, my family are so proud, and we are all very happy to be here in Manchester.”
Marmoush’s journey has been nothing short of meteoric. After joining Frankfurt on a free transfer last year, he exploded onto the scene.
Now, he’s a Premier League star, rubbing shoulders with the likes of Haaland and De Bruyne, and his name sits alongside footballing giants like Nicolas Pépé, Victor Osimhen, and Riyad Mahrez in the pantheon of Africa’s most expensive exports.
Marmoush’s Bundesliga goals speak volumes. His pace, his power, his clinical finishing – he’s a complete forward. But it’s not just about the goals. His 14 assists across all competitions demonstrate his selfless nature and his ability to create chances for his teammates.
City, meanwhile, are ecstatic. They’ve identified a special talent, a young, hungry player with the potential to become a world-class star.
“Omar is an accomplished and exciting forward, and I’m delighted he’s joining us,” City Director of Football Txiki Begiristain said.
“He has all the attributes a top-class attacker requires. He has outstanding pace and awareness, and he is exceptional in front of goal. He can also play a number of different positions, which is a really valuable asset,” Begiristain added.
Now, the challenge begins. Can Marmoush seamlessly integrate into Guardiola’s intricate system? Can he handle the pressure of playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world?
Marmoush, however, isn’t fazed. “I really am looking forward to getting going, meeting the other players and showing the Manchester City fans what I can do,” he said.
