Hamza Igamane is living his best football days right now. The 22-year-old Moroccan forward has made an instant impact in his debut season since joining Glasgow Rangers last summer. But while he shines in club football, his mind is firmly set on an even bigger dream – representing Morocco in the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on home soil.

Speaking to Onze Mondiale, a French sports magazine, Igamane didn’t hide his zeal: “I know how tough the competition is in the national team. Morocco has so many top players upfront. Every Moroccan dreams of playing for their country, and I’m no different. But I know the only way is through hard work and strong performances for my club.”

Igamane has scored 13 goals and provided two assists across all competitions and he is sitting tightly on the edge of his seat waiting for a call-up from head coach Walid Regragui. “There’s been no official contact so far,” he says. “But I’m focused, working hard, and if I keep performing, maybe my chance will come.”

The former AS FAR striker also spoke highly of Ayoub El Kaabi, the Moroccan acrobatic forward who broke records in Greece and scored the winning goal in the UEFA Europa Conference League with Olympiacos in the final game last season.

“Ayoub El Kaabi is an incredible player,” Igamane said. “What he did in Europe, finishing as the top scorer and winning a European trophy, is inspiring. He’s a role model for players like me. I want to follow his footsteps and become one of the Moroccan players who have made their mark in Europe.”

Igamane is also backing his home country to put on a historic AFCON later this year. “Morocco has everything needed to host a great tournament. I hope I can be part of it, but most importantly, I want to see the national team lift the title at home.”
