Rabat – Police detained three individuals on Saturday evening in Temara, a town near Rabat, for sharing social media videos inciting dangerous stunts.
The suspects had been documenting and posting videos of hazardous activities that posed significant risks to public safety and people.
Converging reports mentioned that the National Security’s cyber-surveillance unit initially detected concerning content circulating on social media, with footage that threatened public order and civilian safety.
The content prompted an immediate investigation that led to the identification and subsequent arrest of the individuals in Temara, a town near Rabat.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had been filling plastic water guns with gasoline, which they used to create flames in public spaces.
This reckless behavior endangered public infrastructure, personal property, and civilian safety.
The suspects were also involved in other dangerous driving stunts and challenges that seriously risk the lives of other road users.
Authorities initially confiscated several of these modified plastic guns, various equipment, ropes, and small knives. Police also seized a rental vehicle that had been used to perform perilous driving maneuvers on public roads.
Local media quoted a spokesperson, who requested anonymity, saying: “These individuals showed complete disregard for public safety in pursuit of social media attention.”
“Their actions could have resulted in serious injury or worse,” the spokesperson continued.

The suspects are under judicial custody for ongoing investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office.
Authorities are working to uncover all ins and outs surrounding the documentation and execution of these dangerous acts that raised genuine threats to both public and private property.
Given the growing use of social media for various purposes, this incident raises crucial questions about social media challenges, particularly in terms of stunts that could put public safety at risk.
As law enforcement authorities across Morocco continue to monitor and crack down on such dangerous behavior, Morocco’s Minister of Justice vowed last year to introduce strict penalties in the country’s penal code to tackle social media content misconduct.
