Rabat – The deaths of three young Moroccan-American women in a Belize resort have left their families devastated, while speculation over the cause continues.
Reports say that authorities discovered their bodies on Sunday at the Royal Kahal Resort on Coconut Drive in San Pedro.
Resort staff found Kawtar Naqad (23), Iman Mellah (24), and Wafa Alarar (26) lifeless in their hotel room.
The three women, born in Morocco and holding US citizenship, had been staying at the resort for several days.
Officials reported that the lifeless body of one of them lay covered on a bed, with yellowish foam over her mouth.
Another was face-down near the bathroom, while the third was near the dining table. A forensic team conducted an initial examination, with toxicology experts set to carry out further tests.
Police found no signs of forced entry or injuries on the women.
San Pedro officials suggested an overdose as the probable cause, though other reports pointed to carbon monoxide poisoning.
Local media were also speculating concerns over a potential gas leak, though no official confirmation has been made.
The Moroccan Embassy in Mexico verified the deaths and assured the families of its support and coordination with Mexican authorities.
The women’s families, reeling from the tragedy, asked the public to stop spreading speculation and respect their losses. They also set up fundraising campaigns to repatriate their loved ones home.
While authorities continue to investigate the tragic case, the women’s families hope to get closure for clear answers to their questions over the cause of this tragedy.
