Rabat – A medical team at the Moulay Youssef Hospital in Rabat successfully performed the country’s first-ever surgery to treat Tricuspid insufficiency, a type of valvular heart disease. The operation, which marks a major medical achievement, took place on Tuesday.
The surgery lasted nearly five hours and was led by Professor Mohamed El Aaroussi, head of the heart surgery department at Ibn Sina University Hospital in Rabat, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health and Social Protection.
It was carried out in collaboration with a medical team from Moulay Youssef Hospital. The team consisted of specialized doctors and nurses.
The surgery required a high level of precision and focus due to the complexity of the procedure and the condition of the patient, a 63-year-old man.
The ministry described the surgery as a significant milestone in heart and vascular surgery in Morocco. Such operations are usually performed in university hospitals with specialized facilities, which makes this success even more remarkable, added the statement.
The achievement reflects the high level of skill among Moroccan medical and nursing staff, the ministry remarked, adding that it demonstrates their ability to handle complicated medical cases while maintaining top-quality standards.
The ministry added that the success of the surgery proves that Moulay Youssef Hospital has advanced medical capabilities, which strengthens its position as one of Morocco’s leading hospitals and a center of excellence in heart and vascular medicine.
The ministry further stated that this achievement reflects the continuous improvement in Morocco’s public healthcare services. It also shows the country’s ability to provide high-quality medical care to meet the needs of its citizens, concluded the statement.
