Doha – In a leadership reshuffle, the Central Popular Bank (BCP) has appointed three new director generals following a board meeting held on Thursday.
The appointments include Idriss Bensmaïl as Director General of Retail, Abdeslam Bennani as Director General of Corporate and Investment Banking, and Othmane Tajeddine as Director General of International Banking.
Idriss Bensmaïl, 46, joins BCP to lead the retail division, overseeing all activities and subsidiaries related to individual, professional, and business segments.
With an expertise in the banking sector, Bensmaïl previously held senior positions at renowned financial institutions both internationally and in Morocco.
He holds a degree from EDHEC Business School (Lille) and an Executive MBA from Harvard Business School.
Abdeslam Bennani has been promoted to Director General of Corporate and Investment Banking after serving as Deputy Director General of International Banking.
With 27 years of banking experience, including 14 years at BCP, Bennani is recognized for his expertise in financing large corporations and developing banking activities in Sub-Saharan Africa.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from the Institut Supérieur de Commerce et d’Administration des Entreprises and a DESS in audit and finance.
Othmane Tajeddine, 49, takes charge of international banking after previously serving as Deputy Director General of Capital Markets and Group Investment activities.
With over 22 years at BCP, Tajeddine brings expertise in finance, capital markets, and corporate banking. He holds a DESS in financial and asset management.
According to the bank’s statement, “These three appointments will serve the ambitions of the BCP Group’s new development cycle.”
“The strategic vision, exemplary professional backgrounds, and leadership skills of these three Director Generals will be valuable assets for achieving the Group’s growth and innovation objectives,” the statement read.
These appointments follow the major leadership change in November 2024, when Naziha Belkeziz was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of BCP, replacing Mohamed Karim Mounir who requested to exercise his retirement rights.
At the time, the board expressed confidence in BCP’s development prospects under Belkeziz’s leadership, describing her as “a woman recognized for her professional skills and human qualities” with impressive managerial abilities demonstrated throughout her career.
The board also acknowledged Mounir’s nearly thirty years of service and his substantial contributions to the group’s development, especially during his tenure as CEO since 2018.
