Rabat – The holy month of Ramadan 2025 will start on Saturday, March 1, according to official announcements in different countries.
Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, Kuwait, Iraq and other countries announced that the holy month is starting on Saturday, as Friday will be the last day of Sha’ban, the month preceding Ramadan.
Unlike Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, and other countries, Morocco is expected to announce Sunday as the first day of Ramadan.
This is likely because the crescent moon of Ramadan will not be visible to religious authorities sighting the crescent to determine whether Sha’ban will be 29 days or will complete 30 days.
Astronomers expect the moon to be invisible before March 1, which would make March 2 the official date of the holy month.
Morocco’s souks are already bustling with people readying for the holy month. Moroccans gear up for Ramadan by making special groceries, with purchases including ingredients to make food that are commonly used during Ramadan.
This includes chebakia, a special sweet that Moroccans introduce to the tables with the harira soup, stuffed or plain batbout bread as well as slo, a crunchy sweet that will give you a boost to stay full almost forever.
Briouat, whether savory or sweet, is also a special addition to Morocco’s Ramadan iftar.
Morocco is expected to announce the official date tonight after sunset.
Ramadan is when Muslims fast from dawn to sunset. After iftar, Muslims gear up for Taraweeh, the extra prayers performed after isha at mosques.
Taraweeh can also be performed at home.
Ramadan lasts for 29 or 30 days depending on the crescent sighting for the month of Shawwal.
