Rabat – Morocco’s Atlas Lion Brahim Diaz impressed international media on Tuesday night with a stunning performance that sent Real Madrid as a winner against Atletico Madrid in a thrilling UEFA Champions League.
The Atlas Lion gave his club a winning goal in the 55th minute of the match. Second in the match, the goal stunned Atletico Madrid, which scored an equalizer to Real Madrid’s first goal in the 32nd minute of the game.
Rodrygo gave Real Madrid the opener early during the first half, approximately four minutes from the start.
Diaz’ winner sparked celebrations and positive commentary for the Atlas Lions from news outlets, including Al Jazeera, the Guardian, New York Times, and BBC.
“Real Madrid’s Brahim Diaz revels as the darling of the Bernabeu,” New York Times’ sports focused website the Athletic wrote.
The news outlet recalled how fans chanted Diaz’s name, noting that it was the Atlas Lion that claimed the spotlight.
Al Jazeera meanwhile called Diaz’s goal a “superb” winner,remarking that he has proven himself a key player in Ancelotti’s squad.
“Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti opted for Morocco international Diaz in midfield to replace the suspended Jude Bellingham, and selected Fede Valverde at right back after he was passed fit to play,” the news outlet said.
It also quoted coach Carlo Ancellotti, who recognized Diaz’ spectacular performances.
Ancelloti congratulated both Rodrygo and Brahim Diaz, saying that they both made the difference. “They were the best,” he said.
BBC also celebrated Diaz, describing his goal for Real Madrid as a “brilliant winner.”
In Spain, local sports news outlet Mundo Deportivo said Diaz stole the show with a stunning solo goal, which helped Real Madrid to edge out Atletico in the fiery match.
“But, this night belonged to Brahim Diaz. The former Man City man cooked in the second half, making José Giménez touch grass with a silky move before burying a low shot into the far corner in the 55th minute,” the news outlet wrote.
This is not the first time Diaz caught the attention of international media and fans.
Last week, he made international headlines for his opening goal for Real Madrid despite his club’s defeat against Real Betis on Saturday.
“The opening goal came from Brahim Diaz, who finished off a well-worked attacking move that showcased the team’s early control of the game,” Madrid Universal wrote.
Diaz returned to Real Madrid in June 2023 after spending a three-season loan at AC Milan.
The Atlas Lion also made headlines when he decided to join Morocco’s national team last year, choosing to represent the North African country over Spain.
