Rabat – Elias Al-Mahiawi, a Moroccan Quran reciter, received recognition at the inaugural UAE International Quran Competition in Abu Dhabi. 

The ceremony honored some of the world’s best reciters for their dedication to Quranic memorization and recitation.  

The competition, organized by the UAE’s General Authority for Islamic Affairs, Endowments, and Zakat, brought together top-ranked participants from international Quranic contests. 

Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, presented the awards.  

Al-Mahiawi’s achievement places him among an elite group of reciters recognized for their excellence in 2024.

Other honorees included Sheikha Alia bint Saeed bin Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Rashid Ali Khalfan bin Khalaf Al-Naqbi from the UAE, Laith bin Ishaq Al-Kindi and Mohammed bin Ishaq Al-Kindi from Oman, Mohammed Adnan Al-Omari and Mohammed Samir Mujahid from Bahrain, Mahmoud Ali Atiya Habib from Egypt, Akah Ould Beytat from Mauritania, Mohammed Sami Metwally from Palestine, and Fatima Loun Abubakar from Nigeria.  

In the local category, winners included Suhaib Ali Mohammed Dawood Abdullah, Omar Mohammed Ali Al-Kabouri Al-Naqbi, Omar Muammar Ali Ahmed Banbila, and Aisha Ali Mohammed Al-Ajla Al-Ali from the UAE, among others. 

Al-Mahiawi’s recognition points to  Morocco’s strong presence in international Quranic competitions. 

With a rich tradition of Quranic scholarship, the country continues to produce distinguished reciters whose skill and devotion earn them places among the world’s finest.
