Rabat – Police in Tetouan seized 17,505 drug pills and arrested four suspects on Tuesday evening.

The operation was carried out in collaboration with the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), and the suspects are believed to be part of a larger criminal network involved in drug trafficking.

According to a security source, the suspects were caught red-handed in possession of the drugs as they were attempting to sell them. During the operation, police searched a vehicle the suspects were using and found 17,505 pills of “Rivotril,” a type of prescription drug often misused as a narcotic.

Authorities have placed the suspects under judicial investigation under the supervision of the public prosecutor. The investigation now aims to uncover more details about the network, including identifying other individuals involved, and dismantling the entire operation.

The source said that this recent operation is part of Morocco’s continuous efforts to combat drug trafficking and organized crime. The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) and DGST continue to work together to prevent the smuggling and distribution of illegal drugs across the country, the source added.

Police in Berkane arrested two individuals earlier this week for their suspected involvement in psychotropic drug trafficking. This includes a repeat offender and a general practitioner who issued false prescriptions that enabled the first suspect to purchase the drugs.

This weekend, security services in Nador foiled a drug trafficking operation, seizing over a ton of hashish and arresting six individuals. The operation was carried out across several northern cities.
