Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), has been re-elected as a member of the FIFA council. The vote took place today during the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) general assembly in Cairo, Egypt, where Lekjaa secured 49 out of 52 votes. One ballot was invalid.Â
This win shows Lekjaa’s influence in African and international football. It also keeps him in the CAF Executive Committee, a position he first secured on March 16, 2017, crushing Algerian candidate Mohamed Raouraoua with 41 to 7 votes.Â
During the same assembly, South African business tycoon Patrice Motsepe was re-elected as CAF President for a second term without any contender.
Lekjaa has assumed several key roles in CAF over the years. He heads the finance committee and is also in charge of the 2030 World Cup preparations hosted on home soil.
He first joined FIFA’s Council in March 2021 and has now secured a second four-year term. Lekjaa also serves on FIFA’s governance and audit committees.
Lekjaa has led the FRMF since 2014 and was re-elected for a third term in May 2022. Under his leadership, Moroccan football has grown steadily, earning recognition on the international stage.
