Rabat – Moroccan police in Tetouan seized today three kilograms of cocaine and 94,728 psychotropic pills in a new operation as part of the country’s effort to combat drug trafficking.
Police carried out the operation in coordination with the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST).
Police arrested two suspects, a statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) said, noting that the defendants are two brothers aged 29 and 41 who have alleged connections to a criminal network involved in drug trafficking.
The arrests took place in the rural area of Laktout, part of the Ounnana commune near the city of Ouezzane.
Police also seized 14 kilograms of cannabis, eight knives, and money in national and foreign currency likely from drug trafficking.
Moroccan police also seized walkie-talkies, fake license plates, and two vehicles in addition to three mini-scales and a tear gas canister.
Police put the suspects in cursory pending a judicial investigation to arrest any potential accomplices involved in the case.
According to the DGSN’s latest annual report, Morocco’s police tackled 92,346 drug-related cases in 2024. During that year, police arrested 119,692 individuals. Of those arrested, 287 were foreign nationals, the report detailed.
Additionally, police have seized 123 tons and 971 kilograms of cannabis in different operations across the country, as well as 1.9 tons of cocaine, 16.5 kilograms of heroin, and over 1.4 million of psychotropic substances.
