Rabat – In a swift response to an alarming social media post, judicial police in Biougra, a town in Chtouka Aït Baha Province in Morocco’s Souss-Massa region, arrested on Friday two individuals for allegedly publishing violent digital content designed to undermine public safety and stir fear among citizens.

National security services acted promptly after discovering a video circulating on social media platforms showing individuals purchasing fuel, claiming it would be used for supposed explosions in the city.

The footage then depicted the suspects setting fire to an empty area and adding visual effects to create the illusion of an explosion.

Authorities conducted investigations following the video’s publication, leading them to identify and arrest two suspects.

Meanwhile, police detained an employee at a gas station for allegedly facilitating the criminal acts by providing the fuel used in the staged incident.

One of the two suspects is a 17-year-old minor, according to converging reports. The adult suspect has been placed in police custody while the minor remains under surveillance. The detained gas station employee is now subject to judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office.

Authorities are carrying out an investigation to uncover all circumstances surrounding the case and to apprehend any remaining accomplices involved in these criminal acts, noted an official statement.

Security experts warn that publishing falsified content that leads to public panic is a serious offense with legal consequences.

This incident signals growing concerns about the misuse of social media to spread false information and fake news that can trigger public anxiety.

Law enforcement officials reiterated their commitment to monitoring digital platforms and taking immediate action against individuals who attempt to disrupt public order through misleading or threatening content.

The potential impact of such videos on community safety remains a source of concern if such incidents go unchallenged.
