Rabat – On the sixth day following Israel’s breach of the ceasefire, the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) continues its genocidal assault across Gaza, killing at least 41 Palestinians and injuring 61 others over the past 24 hours.
The number of confirmed dead Palestinians killed by the Israeli genocide on Gaza has jumped to 50,021 since October 2023, according to local health authorities.
Israel’s resurgence of attacks has killed over 700 Palestinians in less than a week, as well as displaced thousands from their territory.
The renewed attacks also came along with IOF issuing evacuation orders, pushing Palestinians residing in the Tel al-Sultan area in Rafah to move on foot to the al-Mawasi area in south Gaza.
Gazans are already living in dire humanitarian conditions. Israel has been using a blockade of humanitarian aid as a weapon since March 2, leading the enclave to enter the first stage of famine last week.
The head of the UN Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) Philippe Lazarrini warned that delaying entry of vital humanitarian aid, including food, into the enclave “inches Gaza closer to an acute hunger crisis.”
Palestinian NGOs are sounding the alarm about the declining conditions in war-torn Gaza.
The director of the Palestinian NGOs Network (PNGO) in Gaza, Amjad Shawa, said that “the coming days are very critical for us in the Gaza Strip; it’s the longest closure of the crossings – 22 days, no entry for basic needs, for anything.”
He deplored “the shortage and deficit of everything.”
Lazarrini said that “banning aid is a collective punishment on Gaza: the vast majority of its population are children, women & ordinary men.”
Witkoff blames Hamas
US special envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff accused Hamas of being responsible for Israel’s renewed bombarding of Gaza. He said Hamas rejected efforts to move forward with what had been an “acceptable deal,” referring to his and Israel’s proposal to extend the first phase of the ceasefire.
“So this is on Hamas. The United States stands with the state of Israel,” Witkoff told Fox News, describing Hamas as the “aggressor.”
Contrary to these remarks, Hamas has repeatedly shown and confirmed its readiness to go ahead to the next phase of the ceasefire. On March 14, the Palestinian group agreed to the mediators’ proposal to hand over the US-Israeli captive Edan Alexander and the bodies of four others holding dual citizenship, in order to advance in talks.
Hamas says it wants Israel to abide by what it agreed on when it signed the January ceasefire deal, including talks on ending the war permanently in exchange for the remaining 59 captives held in Gaza.
“We have positively responded to all the efforts made towards us,” Taher al-Nono, media adviser for the head of the Hamas political bureau, told Al Jazeera on Wednesday.
“It was Netanyahu that has backed down on the agreement. It was Netanyahu who turned a blind eye to it. Therefore, it is Netanyahu, not Hamas or the resistance, that should be pressured to comply,” he said.
To make matters worse, the resumption of genocide against Gaza is taking place with US President Donald Trump’s approval and continued support.
Protest in Israel against Netanyahu
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is facing backlash over resuming his genocidal war against Gaza.
Tens of thousands of Israelis have rallied outside Israel’s parliament, the Knesset, in Jerusalem, to decry Netanyahu’s policy that prioritizes his political survival over the security of his country, the lives of Israeli hostages remaining in Gaza.
Not only that, protesters also condemned the Israeli decision to dismiss the head of the Shin Bet domestic intelligence service, Ronen Bar.
Netanyahu and Bar have been at odds for months amid tensions over a bribery investigation involving the prime minister’s office and disputes over the failure to prevent the Hamas-led attacks on southern Israel on October 7, 2023.
In a letter, Bar stated that his removal was driven by an attempt to obstruct the “pursuit of truth” regarding the events leading up to October 7.
